Guilty as charged by the ancestors

Updated: Oct 20

..........YET IN THIS GUILT, A CHANCE TO CHANGE COURSE

Guilty as charged, our hands stained with regret,

The earth’s plea for mercy, we chose to forget.

In factories’ smoke and oceans’ rising tides,

Lie the truths we buried, the warnings we denied.

Guilty as charged, for forests turned to ash,

For profit’s swift gain, we made a ruthless dash.

The trees once whispered secrets of the earth,

Now silenced by greed, stripped of their worth.

Guilty as charged, for the wildlife’s fading call,

The balance disrupted; we engineered their fall.

With each extinct species, a thread is torn away,

From the tapestry of life, growing frayed by the day.

Guilty as charged, for the plastic we consume,

That chokes the life in waters, a synthetic tomb.

Our convenience carved a legacy so stark,

In oceans’ depths, our waste leaves a mark.

Guilty as charged, for ignoring nature’s cry,

For the scorching summers and the Arctic’s melting ice.

Our carbon footprints stamped deep in the ground,

Echo the mistakes we made, so profound.

Guilty as charged, for the storms we’ve bred,

The floods, the droughts, the lands left dead.

The wrath of nature, a mirror to our sins,

A testament to the destruction that begins.

Yet in this guilt, a chance to change course,

To heal the wounds, to harness a kinder force.

To plant anew the forests that we felled,

To listen to the earth where once we rebelled.

Guilty as charged, but not beyond repair,

In unity and action, we find hope there.

To mend the world, to turn the tide,

With respect and love, standing side by side.

Guilty as charged, we must confess,

But in our hands, we hold the power to redress.

For future generations, a pledge we arrange,

To be guilty no more, but champions of change.

GUILTY AS CHARGED FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
