Did you know that in most African households, when a son or daughter Graduates and gets a chance to travel abroad for further studies is considered the most important and he or she is highly respected. It comes with so much pride to the family itself, the parents and the family church members organises a day when the prayers will be held. I had the privilege to have one, as a catholic, we had a mass service, and on the image below, i wore the coloured beautiful skirt. To pay homage to the day i had the prayers, i created a visual representation of the day, coming out of an African country where my career in Art had hit rock bottom, i had a choice to either be married off or keep fighting for my dreams. Covid 19 pandemic was a wake-up call when now art was no longer a luxury but what kept people sane, what had people have something to look at other than empty walls, staying enclosed indoors and creating crafts that changed lifes. This art represents the growth and peace attained on the prayer day when i knew, God had answered my prayers and it was okay to move a thousand miles and chase my dreams.
